REGISTRATIONS WILL TAKE PLACE IN PERSON AT THE RECREATION OFFICE (455 HOES LANE) ON THE FOLLOWING DATES:

MONDAY, APRIL 15th       6:00-7:30 P.M.

TUESDAY, APRIL 23rd      6:00-7:30 P.M.

NEW PLAYERS:
THURSDAY, APRIL 25th    6:00-7:30 P.M.

TUESDAY, APRIL 30th       6:00-7:30 P.M.

***Please keep in mind, the registration location is different from last year. It is no longer at Academy Street. Registrations will now take place in the Recreation Office of the Municipal Building at 455 Hoes Lane.***




PAPERWORK:

Central Jersey Pop Warner only accepts original paperwork including final report card.  No fax or scanned paperwork will be accepted.  Recreation will not make any photocopy for you of any paperwork you submit.  It is highly recommended that you make and keep a copy of all paperwork submitted for your own files.

You cannot practice until all paperwork is submitted.  If you do not turn in your all required paperwork, we will consider your child no longer interested to participate in the program and will not be assigned to a team roster.

New football player: 5 items 


Report card

An original version (no e-mail or fax) of your 2023-24 final report card that includes all four (4) marking periods must be submitted.  Please be sure to note on the final report card that it is being submitted for a "football player."  Please note that the Piscataway School system Genesis program is typically open the last day of school for approximately one week.  After that time, you will not be able to download your child’s report card.   All outstanding school fines must be made in order for you to do so.


First practice


Pop Warner football practices start on Thursday, August 1st at 6:15 p.m. at Quibbletown Park.  All players registered on the 12-under, 10-under, 8-under and 6-under teams are expected to attend wearing a white t-shirt with your name on the back in marker, shorts or sweatpants, sneakers or cleats.


Basic information

Intro to Piscataway Braves Football:  It is the purpose of the Piscataway Braves to promote and uphold team spirit, practice good sportsmanship and promote good relations between teams and squads during practices, games and events.  It takes complete and total dedication from all players to ensure the safe execution of their plays and to succeed.  Please make sure this is something to which you can commit.  All player related practices, games, and playoffs are considered priority from the first day of practice until the season ends.

Age requirements:  The Piscataway Braves Football program is open to youth ages 5-12 years old.  A football player must turn five years of age before August 1, 2024 and cannot turn 13 years of age until after July 31, 2024. Inclusive birthdates for each team are as follows:

6U (Flag):    Between 8/1/18 and 7/31/19 
8U:              Between 8/1/16 and 7/31/17
10U:            Between 8/1/14 and 7/31/16
12U:            Between 8/1/12 and 7/31/14


Teams:  Your child will be placed on a squad based on the Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. 2024 Season Age Matrix.  All teams are going to age based classifications and weight will no longer be used to determine team placement.

Skills:  Players placed on a team will play each game.  For younger players, fundamentals including safe tackle technique and fun are stressed.  Older players have the opportunity to expand their knowledge of the game, hone skills and develop team building and leadership skills.

Practices: Practices start in August at Quibbletown Park on three (3) nights per week with water breaks scheduled.  Practice is rain or shine and seldom cancelled due to weather.  If in doubt, please call the cancellation hotline (732) 562-2389.  The announcement is updated at 4:00 p.m.  If practice is not cancelled, you must report to practice.  If weather worsens, practice may be cancelled at the site.  Parents are responsible to be available to pick up their child at any time if cancelled.

Season:  The regular season normally starts in September and runs approximately eight (8) weeks ending in early November.  However, it may be longer if your football team advances to playoffs/championships. within the division.

Fees:  The Recreation Department does not charge for the Pop Warner program.

What to wear at practice:  For the first week of practice, a white t-shirt with your name on the back in marker, shorts or sweatpants, sneakers or cleats.

Returning uniforms

  • Football uniform must be laundered prior to being returned on your scheduled date at the end of the season.   Failure to comply will result in a $10 fee per item.  (Ordinance 16-41).
  • All issued uniforms and equipment are the property of Piscataway Township and must be returned on your scheduled date.  Please make arrangements with someone if you cannot make the date to have the item returned.  Failure to do so is considered theft of municipal property and is an indictable offense handled by the Middlesex County Prosecutor's office.





Central Jersey Pop Warner

Piscataway Braves is a member team of the Central Jersey Pop Warner (CJPW) football league.  Since game schedules and location are set by CJPW, it is out of the Township Recreation Department's control when that schedule and location of games may become available along with possible last minute changes throughout the season.


Parent communication

It is your responsibility to keep the Recreation Department informed of changes to your contact information. You must also check the website periodically for updates.

Most communication will be sent via e-mail only to the person listed as Parent/Guardian #1 as entered in the online registration. It is Parent/Guardian #1’s responsibility to share information with Parent/Guardian #2 and the emergency contact person.


Liability/Accidents

Participants in Piscataway Recreation sponsored events do so at their own risk and accept full responsibility for all their actions and injuries incurred by their participation.  Prior to submitting a claim to the Township, injured parties must first use their own medical/accident insurance as their primary coverage.  The insurance offered by Piscataway Township is supplemental and secondary only.  If a claim qualifies for consideration, the Township insurance is limited to a maximum payout of no more than $5,000.00 per accident.


Accident Reporting

Coach must report the accident to the Recreation Office immediately.

Recreation will provide parent/guardian with an accident Report that must be completed within twenty-four (24) hours after the accident and returned in person to the Recreation office.  All claims must be submitted with original bills that are not covered by private insurance.


Volunteer Coaches

Volunteer coaches are needed.  To apply, please contact Recreation@piscatawaynj.org to request an electronic application. Volunteer coaches must pass a fingerprinting and background check.
