RECREATION PROGRAMS - SUMMER

parks and playgrounds 3SUMMER PLAYGROUND PROGRAM

The Piscataway Township Recreation Department’s supervised “drop-in” summer playground program will start on Monday, July 7, 2008 and continue through Friday, August 15, 2008. Playgrounds are not equipped with restroom facilities. Parks are open according to the time schedule listed below:

Columbus Park - Ninth Street and Mansfield Road - 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Hazelwood Park - Hazelwood Avenue - 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Irishtown Park - Mountain Avenue - 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Jeffrey Suskin Park - Haines Avenue off Stelton Road - 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Possumtown Park - Third Street and Possumtown Road - 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Tara Park - Ellis Parkway - 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Wynnwood Park - Brentwood Drive - 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

(The Recreation Department reserves the right to alter the operating hours and the location of the summer playground program.)

 There are planned activities scheduled each day as well as routine ongoing activities at each park.  Each park is supplied with athletic equipment, games and craft supplies.

All registration will take place at the playground.  It is suggested that children register at the playground nearest their home, preferably on opening day, Monday, July 7, 2008.

Only children entering kindergarten in September 2008 as well as other elementary and middle school aged children are eligible.  THESE ARE NOT DAY CARE CENTERS.    Children may come and leave as they please.

 

gymnastics 3GIRLS GYMNASTICS:

This program is open to girls entering grades four through twelve.  The program is of a concentrated nature and will be held five days a week for a six-week period. Girls interested in this program may register on Wednesday and Thursday, June 25th and June 26th, 2008 in the 11/12 building gym between 9 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.  Please enter the gym through the back using door #15.   This program will begin July 7th, 2008.

Track iconSUMMER TRACK PROGRAM:

Informal club activity for male and female athletes ages six through adults.  Participation in Statewide track meets.  Program is held at the Piscataway high school track and will start the last week of June and run through mid August.  Please go to the following link for a registration form SUMMER TRACK REGISTRATION FORM  or call the Recreation Office to register starting June 2, 2008.

Basketball 3BOYS AND GIRLS SUMMER RECREATION BASKETBALL PROGRAM:

Two action sessions for boys and girls who will enter grades four through twelve in September 2007. The First Session will be held at Conackamack Middle School on June 30 July 1, 2, and 3, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  The Second Session will be held at Theodore Schor Middle School on July 7, 8, 9, 11 and 11, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The activities include basketball skills, fundamentals, games, contests, and awards.

tennis courtsTENNIS COURT RESERVATION SYSTEM:

The Tennis Courts at Columbus Park may be reserved for one hour by any Township resident eighteen years or older. Reservations may be made by calling the Recreation Office, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Reservations are accepted for the following time schedule:

                                     Monday through Friday 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

 All other hours and weekends operate on first come, first serve basis.  In order to make a reservation, a tennis court identification card must be obtained from the Recreation Office in person.  There is no charge for the I. D. card.

 In 2008 we will be updating our tennis reservations system and issuing new “identification cards.”  All current, existing card holders will be required to come to the recreation office at 455 Hoes Lane to re-register and obtain their new identification card.  Please provide documentation verifying Piscataway residency at time of registration.

 

POP WARNER REGISTRATION

Football 3·        Football

For residents ages seven through fifteen years. Age and weight requirements are set by the National Pop Warner Organization.  Players must turn seven before August 1, 2008 and cannot turn fifteen until after July 31, 2008. Registration will be held in the Municipal Building on WEDNESDAY, JUNE 4, 2008 ONLY between 7:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Players must register before being eligible to practice. Birth certificates and accurate body weight must be provided when registering. Space is limited to 35 players per squad.  You can fill out the registration form online by going to the following link: POP WARNER FOOTBALL REGISTRATION FORM  Please note that you need to print out the form, sign it and submit it on June 4th.  Email copies will not be accepted.

For girls who turn seven before August 1, 2008 and do not turn fifteen until after July 31, 2008. PicnicPICNIC PERMITS:

Riverside and Possumtown Parks (Veterans Memorial) are available for non-profit Piscataway family, civic and corporate picnics from May 5, 2008 through September 14, 2008.  All requests must include a completed picnic reservation form, certificate of insurance and hold harmless agreement.  Forms are available in the Recreation Office.  Requests must be made in person.  Documentation verifying Piscataway residency/employment is required.  Limited weekend dates are available.  Picnic Permits now have applicable fees.  Click on the following link for fee schedule:  PICNIC FEE SCHEDULE

sports bagPICNIC BAGS & EQUIPMENT LOAN:

Loan of equipment for Piscataway residents for group and family outings.  Horseshoes, Frisbee, volleyball, softball equipment, etc.  A $25.00 CASH deposit is required for each rental.  Deposits are refunded upon return of the equipment.

For youngsters who will be enrolled in grades three through twelve in the fall.  A concentrated three days a week for three weeks program will be held beginning, Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at Columbus Park.  Limited registration for this program.  Please call the Recreation Office to register starting June 2nd, 2008.  You can access a registration form by clicking on the following link: SUMMER TENNIS LESSONS REGISTRATION FORM

 

Fitness 1OPEN GYM PROGRAM:

The Open Gym program will be open to Piscataway residents in grades nine through twelve. Monday through Friday, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., beginning Monday, June 23rd.   Weight training, exercise, basketball, and volleyball available.  For further information, contact the Recreation Office. Student identification cards are required.

 

4th of July flag4th OF JULY CELEBRATION:

The Annual 4th of July Celebration and Fireworks Display will be held on Friday, July 4, 2008. The fireworks display will be at 9:30 p.m. at the Piscataway High School football stadium.  There will be clowns, kiddie rides, live music, and a classic car show at the High School Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m. All July 4th activities are sponsored by the Recreation Department, and subsidized in part by corporate donations.   Contact the Recreation Office for further information.  The rain date is July 5, 2008.

Youth Center 1PISCATAWAY “WHAT’S UP” YOUTH CENTER:

The center is Located at 211 Lakeview Avenue.  The center is open to Piscataway youths in Middle School and High School up to age 16.  For programming information and hours of operation, contact the center at (732) 752-2701.

 

GENERAL INFORMATION:  Participants in Piscataway Recreation sponsored events do so at their own risk and accept full responsibility for all their actions and injuries incurred by their participation.  Prior to submitting a claim to the Township, injured parties must first use their own medical/accident insurance as their primary coverage.  The insurance offered by Piscataway Township is supplemental and secondary only.  If a claim qualifies for consideration, the Township insurance is limited to a maximum payout of no more than $5,000.00 per accident.

 

·       Use of Township facilities, parks, ball fields, and courts are limited to residents of Piscataway and require a certificate of insurance and a Defense and Hold Harmless Agreement.

·       More detailed information on all programs is available by calling the Recreation Office.

·       Program cancellation information due to inclement weather may be obtained by   calling  732- 562-2389.

·       Please be advised that the Piscataway Soccer Club, the Piscataway Little League and the Raritan Landing Golf Course are independent of Piscataway Recreation.
