Rain and Snow 1CANCELLATION LINE: For information on the cancellation of programs due to inclement weather call 732- 562-2389.

                                                                                                                            

PicnicPICNIC RESERVATIONS: Riverside and Possumtown Parks are available to Piscataway Residents as well as Civic Organizations and Businesses based in Piscataway from May 5, 2008 through September 14, 2008.  All picnic requests must be made in person in the Recreation Office at least two weeks before the actual date of the picnic.  Proof of residence and reservation request forms must be submitted.  Contact the Recreation Office to obtain a reservation request form and a Hold Harmless agreement.  The Recreation Office will begin accepting request forms on Saturday, January 12, 2008 between 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.  Snow date is January 19, 2008.  New in 2008 - Fees will be charged for Picnic Grove Resrevations, and Alcohol Permits.  (see Fee Schedule)

Hockey 2GYM HOCKEY: A ten-week program similar to ice hockey but played in Quibbletown gymnasium with sneakers and a plastic puck.  Grades six through eight should report at 9:00 a.m., high school students should report at 10:15 a.m.  Adults should report at noon beginning Saturday, January 5, 2008.

Arts and Crafts 1CHILDRENS CRAFT CLASSES: A ten-week program beginning Saturday, January 5, 2008.  Children’s craft classes will be held at Quibbletown Middle School cafeteria.  Kindergarten, first and second graders from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., third, fourth, fifth & sixth graders from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.  All children should come dressed ready to use paint and glue.  There is no charge for any of the projects.

Weight Lifting 1OPEN GYM: For ninth through twelfth graders at Piscataway High School, Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Weight training, basketball and outdoor track for walking and running.  For further information, please call the Recreation Office.  The program starts Monday, September 10, 2007. Proof of residency must be shown at the door.

Theater 5ADULT AND FAMILY BUS TRIPS: Sunday afternoon trips to Broadway shows will again be scheduled early this winter and spring.  Look for our winter theater schedule at the libraries, Township Clerk’s Office and the Recreation Office.  Call the Recreation Office to be placed on mailing list.

Martial Arts 1MARTIAL ARTS: The Piscataway Recreation Department is sponsoring Martial Arts classes on Tuesdays and Fridays beginning Tuesday, September 11, 2007.  Residents’ ages 11 and up are welcomed.  Classes will be held at Conackamack Middle School from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.  Please call the Recreation Office for additional information. Space is limited.

Fitness 1ADULT FITNESS CLASSES: A cardiovascular fitness program designed for residents over 18 years of age.  The program runs every Monday and Thursday evening, beginning at 7:30 p.m., at Quibbletown Middle School.  Classes are scheduled to begin on Monday, September 10, 2007.

Basketball 3OPEN BASKETBALL: For residents over 18 years of age.  Meets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Quibbletown Middle School and Thursdays at Knollwood Elementary School from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. beginning Tuesday, October 23, 2007.  Wednesday night is for Women Only.  Proof of residency must be shown at the door.

Basketball iconOVER “35” OPEN BASKETBALL: For residents over 35 years of age.  Meets on Fridays at Quibbletown School from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. beginning October 26, 2007.  Proof of residency must be shown at the door.

 

basketball 2MIDDLE SCHOOL BASKETBALL LEAGUE: For Piscataway boys and girls in sixth through eighth grade.  Registration for this program will be accepted in the Recreation Office, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., beginning Monday, October 29, 2007.  On Tuesday evening, November 13, 2007 players may register in the Recreation Office between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.  Players must register by Friday, November 16, 2007.  Players registering after the November 16, 2007 deadline will be placed on a waiting list.  Registration will not be accepted at the gym during tryouts. Middle School Basketball website – www.leaguelineup.com/msbb.

BasketballsBOYS GRAMMAR SCHOOL BASKETBALL: A ten-week program that will emphasize basketball fundamentals for boys in grades three, four and five.  Program will be held at Knollwood Elementary School beginning Saturday, January 5, 2008.  Third graders are to  report at 1:00 p.m., Fourth graders at 2:00 p.m. and fifth graders at 3:00 p.m.          

Girls Basketball 3GIRLS GRAMMAR SCHOOL BASKETBALL: A ten-week program for girls in grades three, four, five, six, seven and eight.  Program will be held at Knollwood Elementary School beginning Saturday, January 5, 2008.   Third and fourth graders should report at 9:00 a.m., fifth through eighth graders should report at 10:30 a.m.  This program will emphasize basketball fundamentals.

Wrestling 1COMPETITIVE WRESTLING: Second through eighth grade athletes will sharpen their wrestling skills through this program.  They will be able to use these skills in competition with surrounding communities.  This program will begin on Monday, November 12, 2008.  For additional information call the Recreation Office.

Youth Center 1PISCATAWAY YOUTH CENTER: Located at 211 Lakeview Avenue.  This center is open to Piscataway youth in Middle School and High School up to age 16.  For information regarding programs and hours of operation, contact the Youth Center at (732) 752-2701.  Proof of residence required.  Adult volunteers needed to help staff the center.

Various SportsGENERAL INFORMATION:  Participants in Piscataway Recreation sponsored events do so at their own risk and accept full responsibility for all their actions and injuries incurred by their participation.  Prior to submitting a claim to the Township, injured parties must first use their own medical/accident insurance as their primary coverage.  The insurance offered by Piscataway Township is supplemental and secondary only.  If a claim qualifies for consideration, the Township insurance is limited to a maximum payout of no more than $5,000.00 per accident.

For use of Township facilities, parks, ball fields and courts, a certificate of insurance and a hold harmless agreement are required.

It is now mandatory in New Jersey for all school aged youth that wear corrective eyewear while participating in recreation programs and activities to wear “Protective Eyewear” that meets (ASTM) American Society for Testing and Materials standards for frames, and (ANSI) American National Standards Institute standards for lenses.

Please be advised that the Piscataway Soccer Club, the Piscataway Little League and the Raritan Landing Golf Course are independent of Piscataway Recreation.
