Citizen Police Academy Scheduled

POLICE DEPARTMENT TO CONDUCT “CITIZEN POLICE ACADEMY”

Program begins February 7, 2008 - Class size is limited

 

The Piscataway Township Police Department will conduct a 12-week “Citizen Police Academy,” an interactive program offering township residents the opportunity to become familiar with the day-to-day operations of their police department. The program, open to residents who are over 21 years of age and who successfully complete a thorough background investigation, will meet on Thursdays for two hours and one selected Saturday at Police Headquarters, 555 Sidney Road, Piscataway.

Participants will gain a better understanding of the procedures, guidelines, responsibilities, demand of personnel and laws and policies that guide police decision making. Overviews of the Department’s organization and structure, recruitment and training, the roles and responsibilities of the various division and sections such as Patrol, Traffic, Investigations, Vice, Special Victims, Community Policing and the Emergency Services Unit. In addition, participants will be given an opportunity to experience a “ride along” with a police officer on patrol and experience firearms training.
